Here’s the lineup for our Block Party this Sunday!
See you there
Bestowed with a “Band to Watch,” stamp by Stereogum, Family Band casts an enchanting spell. Founded by lovebirds Jonny Ollsin and Kim Krans, but eventually expanding into a four-piece, the band released their first LP, Miller Path, in mid-April of this year. The album has a very bold, yet relaxed, sensibility, with Krans’ strong female vocals underscored by biting electric guitars. Path can be streamed in full here, and we can guarantee you’ll hear at least some [...]
Our friends at Newtown Radio recorded Thee Oh Sees’ show at the first Rock Yard a few weeks back. The sound quality is pretty good, and the 42 MB MP3 clocks in at about 35 minutes. Enjoy!

Deeply affected by the loss of their “brother and original band member,” Beau Velasco, Australian band and Pool Partier The Deathset has had a rough few months. Fortunately, they’ve come together, and finished recording their new album, Michel Poiccard, named after the lead character from Breathless, the French New Wave film. They chose the name because of the “rough and tumble dude [that] he is.” Mixed by Spankrock producer XXXChange, the Counter Records release will include [...]
We like supporting the local economy whenever possible, so when we found out our Wintercheck Factory sunglasses were made in our very local Buschwick, we did a fist pump and tied American flag bandannas onto our biceps. But wait. There is a secret.
Mesh blinders, baby. You have to protect your baby blues from the harsh sun [...]
Real Estate and Kurt Vile played Le Poisson Rouge, where we stood in front and checked out everybody’s shoes. We love small venues.
The hometown friends of Real Estate, Big Troubles, opened with a decent set:
The place packed up when Kurt Vile came on, and everybody freaking loved that guy. He checked in with the audience about the sound a few times because he loves us and we wanted to hear more of the [...]
This weekend was a bit of a curveball. The Parks Department started evacuating people before the lightning struck, but before that, there was a bit of fun in the –albeit cloud strangled– sun. Luckily, the show was moved over to Brooklyn Bowl, and the acts continued from there. Anyways, here are some shots from the Williamsburg Waterfront.
She was prepared for the rain even before it happened.
And then the stampede happened…
This dude messes with rain.

Despite Sunday’s massive rain storm, Jelly pulled off a rockin’ concert at Brooklyn Bowl. The day started off hot and steamy, but people cooled off in the Vitamin Water tent. To start off the festivities, the crowd was entertained by the spins of DJ Carlos Valpeoz of Bikes in the Kitchen. As usual, friends gathered together, played dodgeball, scarfed on pizza and some really good tacos, and kept cool drinking ZICO coco water, wine, and [...]
